Wedding Sarees for Women — Buy Sarees for Wedding Guests Online
Most sarees bought for a wedding are not bought by the bride. They are bought by her mother, her sisters, her aunts and her friends — people who need to look substantial without stepping on the bride's day, and who will be at three or four functions in one week.
What should a wedding guest wear?
The two rules that actually exist: do not wear solid red to a Hindu wedding ceremony, and do not wear white to one. Beyond that the field is open, and the more useful question is which function you are dressing for. The ceremony asks for traditional weight and colour. The sangeet and the cocktail want lighter fabric you can dance in. The reception sits between the two and is where most guests over-dress by habit.
Which colours are safe and which are not?
- Reliable — teal, emerald, mustard, wine, navy, dusty rose, gold, bottle green.
- Depends on the family — deep maroon and rani pink read close to bridal in some communities and are unremarkable in others.
- Avoid at the ceremony — solid red, and white or ivory on its own.
How much work is too much?
A guest saree should look finished, not ceremonial. Worked border, lighter body is the formula that holds everywhere — the border gives it presence from across a room, and the plain ground keeps it from competing with the bride's. All-over heavy zari on a guest is what people notice for the wrong reason.
One saree for several functions?
It can be done, and the way to do it is to buy one good silk or georgette in a neutral-rich colour and change the blouse and the jewellery between functions. Nobody photographs the same saree twice in a week and thinks about it; everybody notices the same blouse.
Fabric, by how long you will be standing
Silk for the ceremony, where you will mostly be seated and want structure. Georgette or chiffon for anything with music, where you will be on your feet for hours. Cotton silk for a daytime function in heat, where breathability is worth more than shine.
